At The Hayes at Stone we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint. We encourage residents to recycle where ever possible. Simple measures, such as low energy lightbulbs, and a washing line for residents are implemented. We encourage residents to use wood harvested sustainably from the woodlands to provide additional heating for their apartments.
We have many plans for the future, including re-instating the water wheel to provide energy for the house. We are gradually upgrading the insulation, using sheep's wool insulation.
The wooodlands are listed for their conservation value and we manage the woodlands, pasture and streams to maximise biodiversity. Rare breed Soay sheep graze the fields, providing interest for visitors. We are happy to see that the numbers of bird species has been increasing over that years and for that reason we do not have any cats at The Hayes.
